R-COM revenues up, but profit down on forex adjustments
Reliance Communications (R-COM) Friday reported a marginal rise in its revenues for the first quarter of 2010-11 at Rs.5,109 crore, against Rs.5,093 crore for the quarter ended March 31 but said its profits declined due to exchange variations.
The company, a part of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambai Group (R-ADAG), said in a filing with stock exchanges that its profit after tax stood at Rs.251 crore for the quarter in review, against Rs.1,220 crore in the previous sequential quarter.
The earnings before tax, depreciation and amortisation was, nevertheless, 1.9 percent higher at Rs.1,632 crore, against Rs.1,602 crore during the quarters under review, said the company in its results, announced after the closing of the stock markets.
Coal India to decide on anchor investor in two-three days
State-owned Coal India Limited (CIL) will in the next two-three days decide on the anchor investors for its upcoming initial public offering (IPO) through which the government expects to raise up to Rs.15,000 crore.
“It will be decided in two to three days,” Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar here by Coal Consumers Association of India.
An anchor investor is one who buys shares of a company before the launch of the public issue.
According to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) which approved the concept last year, anchor investors can be allocated as much as 30 per cent of the portion reserved for qualified institutional buyers.
Texmaco against too many wagon-making units
Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee’s decision to set up four wagon making units announced in the Railway Budget for 2010-11 may not be favourable for Texmaco, an official said Thursday.“I have written to Banerjee requesting her to ensure that capacities of existing private sector wagon making units should be utilised to the fullest before the ministry starts work on new wagon facilities,” company chairman Saroj Poddar told shareholders at the annual general meeting.
Banerjee had said that she proposed to set up five state-of-the-art wagon factories in Secunderabad, Bardhaman, Bhubaneshwar/Kalahandi, Guwahati and Haldia.
City-based wagon-maker Texmaco has demerged its core wagon making and steel foundry business to Texmaco Rail and Engineering Ltd and retained the real estate business with itself.
The demerged entity is planning to venture into setting up logistics for the tailways through foreign collaboration, said Ramesh Maheshwari, the executive vice chairman.
Texmaco Ltd is planning to do mixed-use real estate development consisting of commercial and residential units in Delhi, Poddar said.
